2.10 Miscellaneous

2.10.1
Where either ground conditions generate gas (methane etc) or a gas intake point is such that any escape of gases could have serious consequences, gas escape monitoring and/or special venting systems are recommended.

2.10.2
An automatic fuel/power cut off is required on oil/gas fired boilers.

2.10.3
All fire/safety signage to be in English and local language(s) or by pictograms.

2.10.4
Fuel burning fireplaces are not permitted in guestrooms.

2.10.5
Storage of ignitable materials such as paints, solvents etc must be undertaken in fireproof containers, located separately well away from any hazardous operation.

2.10.6
Bulk liquid petroleum gas storage/oil storage arrangements etc will be subject to individual appraisal by Scandic.

2.10.7
Open flame cooking appliances in restaurants (e.g. flambé trolleys) must be equipped with a suitable fire extinguisher.

2.10.8
Any applicable occupancy guidelines/regulations to be adhered to. Fire escape routes to be kept clear at all times.

2.10.9
The correct procedure to be followed regarding water treatment to avoid build up of bacteria, additionally, special attention is to be given to any water-cooling towers in respect of legionella or other waterborne bacteria.

2.10.10
Fully stocked first aid kits, together with first aid instructions, are to be kept in following areas:

Front desk;

Kitchen;

Leisure facilities;

Housekeeping and Engineering areas.

2.10.11
A list of doctors and dentists who can be contacted on a 24 hour basis is to be kept at the front desk.

2.10.12
A crisis response plan, that is regularly updated, is to be kept readily available at the front desk or front office. The plan must contain the telephone numbers of hotel staff, external specialists, statutory services etc who may be needed to be contacted in the event of an emergency.

2.10.13
All wet and closed system cooling towers must be in good operation condition. All water testing and treatment routines are to comply with local codes and esnure sound enginering practices. Records are to be kept of all testing.

2.10.14
All potable water systems and storage must be in good condition. Water testing and treatment routines must be established and records of testing kept.

2.10.15
Grease Interceptors must be installed on all drainage systems where the presence of grease and oil is a high probability (kitchens). The correct opertaion and maintenance is to be carried out and recorded.

2.10.16
Petrol/fuel Interceptors are to be in parking garages.

2.10.17
Carbon Monoxide monitoring systems must be installed in all closed car parking. The system must be tested at least once per year and records kept. All closed parking garages must be fitted with forced draft ventilation or extraction systems linked to the carbon monoxide detection system.
